What are T5 Lamps?

T5 lamps are the latest and most energy efficient lighting technology obtainable in the fluorescent lighting industry today, and it is the first linear lamp type to be served only by electronic ballasts.

Ang T5 ay ang fluorescent tube na may pinakamatipid na konsumo sa kuryente ngayon. ito ay mas mapayat kaysa sa T12, T10 at T8 na ilaw, gumagana lamang ito gamit ang electronic ballast.


What are the common applications of T5 Lamps?

T5 Lamps can be applied in places where we use ordinary fluorescent tubes. In addition, they can be used for cove lightings, cabinets and display showcase.

Maaaring gamitin ang T5 kung saan natin ginagamit ang ordinaryong fluorescent tubes. Pwede rin itong gamitin sa mga aparador, istante at cove lighting dahil sa ito ay manipis.


Types of Omni T5:


T5MF – Maintenance free (casing is made of PVC)


T5 Maintenance free (T5MF)


Maintenance free (T5MF):

The newest type of T5, it is mainly installed on new establishments because its design does not permit integration with the casings of the older T8, T10, and T12 fluorescent lamps. It is the brightest among the T5 fluorescent lamps. It is made up of Non-conductive PVC materials, offers seamless lightings, there’s a lesser chance of loose contact between tube and fixture. Enclosed lamp holders also offer safety from short circuits caused by moist and other small particles that may get into the openings of regular fixtures.

Ang T5 maintenance-free ay karaniwang inererekomenda sa mga bagong buildings, o mga bagong renovate na lugar kung saan wala pang nakakabit na lighting fixture para sa T8, T10 o T12 na ilaw.

Ang casing o lalagyan nito ay gawa sa plastic, kung kaya’t maiiwasan ang ma-ground pag ito’y di sinasadyang mahawakan habang nakasindi. At dahil ang buong fixture ay natatakpan ng plastic, hindi ito pinapasukan ng dumi o ng tubig na maaaring magdulot ng short circuit habang ito’y nakakabit sa tagong lugar. Makikita ring tuloy tuloy at walang patid ang ilaw pag ginamit itong cove lighting, kumpara sa ordinaryong T5 fixtures.

T5 Energy saver (T5LF):

The most energy saving of the Omni T5 series, also like the maintenance free T5, its design does not allow for integration with existing T8-T12 casings.

Ang T5LF ay ang pinakamatipid sa kuryente sa lahat ng T5 natin. Stand alone din itong T5LF, pareho siya sa T5MF na magandang gamitin sa bagong buildings.


FLRS – with adaptors in both ends, to replace existing T12, T10 or T8 tubes

This T5 design allows for integration with the existing T8, T10, T12 fluorescent lamp fixtures.  Its main purpose is to replace all existing T8-T12 fluorescent lamps with the more energy saving and high efficacy T5 Fluorescent lamps.

Ang T5 FLRS o ang reducer type na T5 ay ginagamit para palitan ang mga T8, T10, o T12 na ilaw para maging mas maliwanag at energy saving. Ito ay may adaptor sa magkabilang dulo na pwedeng ikabit sa nakaabang na fixtures para sa karaniwang fluorescent tubes.

Mapapansing malayo ang konsumo ng T8, T10 at T12 na ilaw sa nakadeklarang wattage , ito ay dahil may konsumo rin sa kuryente ang magnetic ballast na ginagamit para ito ay mapagana.

It can be seen that even though the brightness of T12, T10 and T8 are superior in total, their efficacy is less than the T5 series.

Nakikita natin base sa table sa itaas ang pagkakaiba sa liwanag at konsumo sa kuryente ng T12, T10, T8 at T5 na fluorescent sets.

Maaaring lamang ang T12, T10 at T8 sa liwanag, ngunit ito ay dahil mas mataas ang konsumo nila sa kuryente, ang T5 ay lamang sa efficacy, nangangahulugang mas mataas ang liwanag na naibibigay nito sa bawat isang watt na konsumo sa kuryente.


Color

Another factor to consider aside from efficacy is the color retention index or the CRI.  The CRI is a measure of how well colors can be perceived using light from a source.

Standard (Halophosphate) fluorescent tubes have a color rending index of 50-70% whereas the Triphosphor fluorescent tubes have a color rendering index of 85%.

T5 Fluorescent tubes operate with tri-phosphor while the available T8, T10 and T12 tubes in the market mostly utilize Halophosphate powder.

Generally, a higher CRI means that colors can be seen for what they really are.  Low CRI illuminations emit too little red light, this absence of the color makes the skin look pale, less pink; colored objects look muted and unappealing.

Napapalabas nito ang totoong kulay ng mga bagay sa paligid ng hanggang 85%, habang ang mga standard na ilaw ay nasa 50-70% lamang.

Hence, even if the overall lumen output of a T8, T10, or T12 is higher than that of the T5 the way that the surroundings look better and more alive with the T5 makes it the more popular choice when deciding what type of tube to use in one’s home or office.

Isang dahilan kung bakit nirerekomenda rin ang pag gamit ng T5 ay dahil mas binubuhay nito ang paligid sa pamamagitan ng ilaw na inilalabas nito.


Cost

Below are sample cases and a table depicting the energy conservation capabilities of the T5.  FLRS was the one used in the example because it is the one that can be integrated into the existing T8, T10, T12 casing.

Makikita sa sumusunod ang halimbawa kung gaano ang matitipid natin sa konsumo sa kuryente kung tayo ay gagamit ng T5 imbes na ordinaryong fluorescent tube.

Scenario: a factory that is running on 500 pieces of 36W regular fluorescent tube 12 hours a day, 300 days a year. The cost of electricity is P 10.00 per kilowatt hour.

Scenario: ang isang factory ay gumagamit ng 500 pieces ng regular na 36W na fluorescent tube, 12 oras kada araw at 300 araw sa isang taon. Ang kuryente nila ay nasa P 10.00 kada kilowatt hour.

T8 36W: Energy Consumption: 46W or 0.046KW/h; @ P 10 per KW/h: P 0.46 or P 5.52 in 12 hours and P 2,760.00 for 500 fixtures, that’s P 828,000.00 in 300 working days (1 year)


T5-FLRS: Energy Consumption: 28W or 0.028KW/h; @ P 10 per KW/h: P 0.28 or P 3.36 in 12 hours and P 1,680.00 for 500 fixtures, that’s P 504,000.00 in 300 working days (1 year)


T5-MF: Energy Consumption: 33W or 0.033KW/h; @ P 10 per KW/h: P 0.33 or P 3.96 in 12 hours and P 1,980.00 for 500 fixtures, that’s P 594,000.00 in 300 working days (1 year)


T5-LF: Energy Consumption: 22W or 0.022KW/h; @ P 10 per KW/h: P 0.22 or P 2.64 in 12 hours and P 1,320.00 for 500 fixtures, that’s P 396,000.00 in 300 working days (1 year)


Ang factory na gumagamit ng 36W na T8 ay gagastos ng P 828,000.00 sa kuryente sa loob ng isang taon.

Ang factory na nagpalit sa T5 ay gagastos ng P 504,00.000 sa kuryente sa loob ng isang taon.

Difference: P 828,000.00 – P 504,000.00 = P 324,000.00


Factoring in the initial investment for the existing T8 and T5 fixtures is shown by the table below

Cost of 500pcs 36Watts Fluorescent tube: P 49.75 x 500 pcs. = P 24,875.00

Cost of 500pcs T5 Complete set: P 349.75 x 500 pcs. = P 174,875.00

Difference: P 150,000.00


The question therefore is, about how long will it take the investment to pay off?  Below is a table to help illustrate the time in which the investment would yield savings.

Ngayon, ang tanong ay, pag pinalitan ko ang mga T8 ko sa T5, gaano katagal bago ako makabawi sa ginastos ko?


Total savings of switching from T8 to T5 in 300 days: P 324,000.00

Total additional cost of switching from T8 to T5: P 150,000.00


As seen above, the energy savings from switching from the T8 to the T5 after factoring in the cost of fixtures is still P 174,000.00

Makikita natin sa itaas na pag pinalitan ang lahat ng T8  ng T5 (500 pieces each) ay makakatipid ng P 324,000  sa kuryente sa loob ng 300 days.  At ang karagdagang investment na inilabas niyang pera para bilhin ang 500 pieces na T5 ay P 150,000.oo lamang. Sa makatuwid, mayroon pa siyang savings na P 174,000.00


Average savings per day (Total savings for 300 days/ 300 days): P 1,080.00

Days it will take energy savings to pay for switching from T8 to T5 (P 150,000.00 divided by P 1,080.00): 139 days

Savings for the rest of the 161 days (300 days – 139 days): P 173,880.00


As a follow up to the previous table, we can see here that the average saving per day for the five hundred (500 pieces) T5 fluorescent fixtures is P 1,080.00; and once computed the energy savings from the T5 of P 1,080.00 per day will be able to pay off the expense of replacing the T8 with it in 139 days.  Upon further elaboration of the savings, it can also be seen that the rest of the 161 days (300 days less 139 days) will still yield a savings of almost P 174,000.00


Other notable advantages of the T5 as compared to the T8, T10, T12


Temperature


T5 Lamps provides peak light output at 35°C air temperature. By contrast, T8 and T12 lamps provide peak light output at 35°C ambient air temperature. The T5 lamp has a higher lumens-per-watt efficiency in a space where there is little or no air circulation.

Pinakamaliwanag ang T5 pag ang init sa paligid ng lalagyan nito ay umabot na ng 35°C, di gaya ng sa ordinaryong fluorescent tubes na mas dumidilim kapag umaakyat na ang temperatura sa paligid.


The T5 can withstand higher temperatures and can function without the need for air ventilation.  This is attributed to the sleek design of the T5 where the design itself circulates the temperature around the T5 evenly.  Unlike the T8 where the “hottest” spots are near the filaments of the tube (thereby shortening its lifespan) the T5 has no hot spots.

Ang T5 ay walang problema sa temperatura ng paligid.  Ang design kasi nito ay makabago.  Sadyang balanse ang init sa buong bahagi ng T5 pag ito’y nakasindi.  Ang di pantay na temperature ay nakakabawas ng buhay ng isang fluorescent tube. 


Lifespan/ burning hours

The T5 has 15,000 burning hours, while the T8 has only 9,000.  There are a lot of reasons for why the T5 has more burning hours than that of the T8, the first of which is because of the electronic ballast, the second reason why it has a longer life is because the glass tubing of the T5 is coated and has the technology which allows it to use less mercury vapor.  The mercury vapor in the T8 fluorescent tube is 15mg while the mercury vapor in the T5 is only 3mg.  Minimizing the amount of mercury also brings another very important advantage: since mercury absorption causes the lamp’s light output to depreciate over its life, the coating helps to keep light levels much closer to initial output. The T5 lamp has only 5% depreciation in the first 40% of life

Ang T5 ay may mas mahabang buhay sa T8, T10, at T12, ang buhay ng isang ordinaryong fluorescent tube ay umaabot lamang sa 9000 hours, ang T5 ay umaabot hanggang 15,000 hours. Una ito’y gumagamit ng electronic ballast, pangalawa ay dahil sa special coating ng glass ng T5.  Ang coating niya ay sadyang ginawa para mas kumonti ang mercury vapour na kailangan para gumana ang ilaw. Ang pag absorb ng mercury ng isang ilaw ay isang dahilan kung bakit humihina ang ilaw sa kalumaan.

Not all Power Generator dealers here can provide adequately trained sales personnel to give you some proper and individual advice, hence we would like to provide here all the information you need to make a sound decision and the right choice to make sure that your power generator really runs all the appliances reliably for which it was intended in the very first place:


How to Select Your Generator



Power outages can leave a home without power for lighting, cooking, refrigeration, heating, and pumping water.

Portable generators can provide substitute power.

However, the generator must be properly sized to start and run the desired appliance(s).

The first step in selecting a generator is to determine the power requirements.

To avoid under sizing the generator, all starting loads of the equipment connected to the generator must be determined.

Be sure the generator you have selected is large enough to handle your present load and anticipated future needs.

Follow these steps when determining your generator requirements:


1.)  Locate the wattage of the tool and/or appliance(s) you want to run.


This can be found either on its identification plate or in the Owner’s Manual.

If the wattage is not shown, but amps and volts are given, the following formula applies:

AMPS X VOLTS = WATTS

To determined kilowatts (kW) use the following formula:

1,000 WATTS (W) = 1 KILOWATT (KW) (Example: 2,000 watts/1,000 = 2.0 kW)


2.)  Motor-driven tools and appliances may be listed in Horse Power (HP), which must be converted to Watts (W).

Motors can require as much as 6 times of its rated power to start up.

For most motors found in standard households a multiplier of 3 to 4 times their rated power is a safe assumption.

If the running wattage of a motor is 400W, then the starting wattage needed will be approximately 1600.

A medium sized refrigerator for example could be rated already 500W and a larger one 600W and more.

Meaning to run one refrigerator could require easily already 2000W of generated power to make it work.


3.) Add all of the nameplate wattages including the multiplier of 4 for motor type appliances to size up your generator.

It is not a bad advice to add 10% capacity to avoid that your generator runs always at its maximum output.

If you are uncertain with some of your ratings please add another 10% allowance.

And when you want to have additional power for possible future requirements, then add another 10% to your totals.


Example:


We would like to run our medium sized refrigerator of 500W to protect our stored
and hold it fresh.

With the multiplier of 4 this takes already 2000W. Now we have our PC with a standard power supply of 500W, a few auxiliaries like monitor, modem, printer, scanner, speaker, etc, so our computer takes another 1000W to be save.

We would need of course also some lights and maybe a little electric fan, so that would be another 500W already.

The total of our appliances here are already 3500W.

Now we add a little allowance, a little excess and some future needs and we would need already the PM-4000 model

When we have other necessities like for example a water pump, a water heater, some kitchen appliances, maybe even an air conditioning unit, we want to continue the washing machine program and oh, how about the TV set?

For these special needs you need to GET also special equipment and we have them all.

Note:

A Capacitor Compensation Type Generator has a rotor wound with a field winding that is short-circuited with a diode and a stator wound.

It comes with an output winding that is adapted to cross flux, generated by the field winding to output AC power and with an exciting winding that is disposed at predetermined phase angle with respect to the output winding.

It is short-circuited with a phase advance capacitor and an internal combustion engine that drives the rotor to rotate relative to the stator.

The technology is comprised with an engine speed detector that detects the speed of the engine, an output voltage detector that detects output voltage of the AC power on the output winding, an actuator that changes the engine speed and an actuator controller that controls operation of the actuator in accordance with  a constant voltage operation mode in which the detected engine speed is controlled by a closed loop system to achieve and to maintain the desired speed.

Therefore the detected output voltage becomes the precise desired voltage while in the constant frequency operation mode the detected engine speed is controlled by the same closed loop system to achieve and maintain a certain predetermined speed to the point that the frequency of AC power output winding becomes exactly the desired output frequency.

The Promate Portable Power Generator Model PM-4000 which delivers a maximum output of 4000 Watts, has a very large gas tank and is driven by a heavy duty Briggs & Stratton (U.S.) 205CC, OHV, 4 stroke, single cylinder air cooled engine which can take also unleaded gas, it uses a maintenance free brushless alternator system with capacitor compensation technology to stabilize the output voltage. It is designed with a very strange metal frame and very large wheels for increased mobility.

It can run already a medium sized refrigerator with freezer compartment, a computer system with all auxiliaries, other office equipment or household appliances, a TV set, an Electric Fan, of course some good light and other miscellaneous, yet often very necessary or even vital items.

However, it will be only available up to Q2-2010 and the replaced by the latest PM-6000 model as shown below.

Note:

A Capacitor Compensation Type Generator has a rotor wound with a field winding that is short-circuited with a diode and a stator wound.

It comes with an output winding that is adapted to cross flux, generated by the field winding to output AC power and with an exciting winding that is disposed at predetermined phase angle with respect to the output winding.

It is short-circuited with a phase advance capacitor and an internal combustion engine that drives the rotor to rotate relative to the stator.

The technology is comprised with an engine speed detector that detects the speed of the engine, an output voltage detector that detects output voltage of the AC power on the output winding, an actuator that changes the engine speed and an actuator controller that controls operation of the actuator in accordance with  a constant voltage operation mode in which the detected engine speed is controlled by a closed loop system to achieve and to maintain the desired speed.

Therefore the detected output voltage becomes the precise desired voltage while in the constant frequency operation mode the detected engine speed is controlled by the same closed loop system to achieve and maintain a certain predetermined speed to the point that the frequency of AC power output winding becomes exactly the desired output frequency.

In simple words, the voltage and the frequency are 100% stabilized with the Capacitor Compensation technology by controlling the engine speed.

Dedicated Water Features



Auto tuning of the PI Controllers


With auto tuning of the PI controllers, the Drive monitors how the system reacts on corrections made by the Drive and learns from it so that precise and stable operation is achieved quickly.

Gain factors for PI are continuously changed to compensate for changing characteristics of the loads.

This applies to each PI controller in the 4-menu sets individually.

Exact P and I settings at start-up will not be necessary and this lowers the commissioning costs.


Pipe Fill Mode


Enables controlled (closed loop) filling of pipes, Prevents water hammering, bursting of water pipes or blowing off sprinkler heads.
The new pipe fill mode is useable in both vertical and horizontal pipe systems.

This is very useful in all applications where controlled pipe filling is demanded, such as for example in irrigation systems, water supply systems and such alike.


End of Pump Curve


The end of pump curve feature detects breaks and leakages.
The end of curve triggers an alarm, shuts off the pump or performs another programmed action whenever a pump is found running at full speed without creating the desired pressure, a situation that can arise when a pipe breaks or leakages along the lines occur.


Check Valve Ramp


The check valve ramp prevents water hammering as the pump stops and the check valve closes.
The check valve ramp slowly ramps down the pump speed around the valve where the check valve ball is about to shut.

Dry Pump Protection


The dry pump protection lowers maintenance costs.
The VLT Aqua Drive constantly evaluates the condition of the pump, based on internal frequency/power measurements.

In case of a too low power consumption, indicating a no or a low flow situation, the VLT Aqua Drive will simply stop in order to prevent any damages on he equipment.


Sleep Mode


Sleep mode keeps pump wear, tear and power consumption to an absolute minimum.
In low flow situations, the pump will boost the system pressure and then stop.
Monitoring the pressure, the VLT Aqua Drive will restart when the pressure falls below the required level.

Flow Compensation


The flow compensation feature in VLT Aqua Drives exploits the fact that flow resistance decreases with educed flow.
The pressure set point is accordingly reduced, which in return saves again a lot of energy.

Initial/Final Ramp


The initial ramp provides fast acceleration of pumps to minimum speed, from where the normal ramp then takes over.
This prevents damages to the thrust bearings on the pump. The final ramp decelerates pumps from the minimum speed right down to the stop.

Sensorless Pressure


Sensorless Pressure or Flow Control or flow control is a patented VLT feature that allows pump manufacturers to control the constant head (pressure) or flow levels without the use of any additional external sensors whatsoever.
The cost and time of installing such devices, cabling and maintaining pressure are completely eliminated.
Reliability is also boosted as no additional components or connections can cause possible malfunction.

Payback Time Indication


One of the major reasons for applying a VLT Aqua Drive is the very short payback or return of investment time (ROI) due to very considerable energy savings plus of course the mechanical savings and reduced downtimes due to the much longer maintenance intervals.
The VLT Aqua Drive comes with a unique feature which continuously shows the remaining payback time for the initial investment, now that is quite something, isn’t it?

Motor Alternation


This built-in logic controls alternation between two pumps in duty/standby applications.
Motion of the standby pump prevents sticking of the pump. An internal timer assures equal usage of both pumps.
With an option card it is possible to control alternations between up to 8 pumps, now that is another WOW feature, right?

Water and Wastewater processes… Improved control, using less energy




Desalination plants


Desalination plants are used to provide clean drinking water from the sea. The process uses high pressure pumps which must be carefully controlled.
With its built-in PID Controller, the VLT Aqua Drive ensures reliable and precise pressure control, maximizing process control and efficiency.

Groundwater pumps


Submersible deep well pumps need fast start capability, precise control and protection against loss of prime, meaning to sense when the system runs dry in order to avoid expensive damages and costly down-times.
The built-in dry run detection and the initial ramp-up make the VLT Aqua Drive handle such applications to perfection.

Wastewater plants


Fluctuations in flow can disturb the process and lead to increased costs, increased wear and tear on machines through higher number of starts and stops.
Using the VLT-Aqua Drive on pumps, blowers and other equipment will lead to a balanced process and save considerable amounts of energy.
The built-in logic can be programmed to prevent segmenting, etc. in the pump impellers.
The capability to work in variable and constant torque mode makes the VLT Aqua Drive suitable for all wastewater applications without exemption.

In irrigation today great concerns are put on efficiency and energy savings in order to maintain competitive with farm output produce but to think about it, what else is new in this increasingly competitive world?
Anyway, precise pressure control is required to achieve that and the built-in pump control makes the VLT Aqua a perfect match for irrigation requirements in rural areas.
It even offers a special pipe fill function that prevents water hammering and reduces leakage when empty pipes are filled.

The modular FC-202 VLT Aqua Drive


Extremely compact panel mount cabinets


The IP20 enclosure has two individually controlled fans for maximum reliability.

Only a minimum of cooling air passes the electronic components which increases the lifetime.

The aluminum front hinged door ensures easy access to additional I/O options and control wirings.

The IP21 / Type 1 protection can be delivered as a kit solution or as a specific IP21 Drive with easy access plastic cover with snap locks.


Extremely robust cabinets for very harsh environments


The Danfoss IP55 / Nema 12 or IP66 enclosures are designed for use in very harsh environments with gas pollution, water issues and dust surroundings. The electronics are completely separated from the cooling air in order to increase the lifetime.

All terminals and EMC connections are located inside the Drive under the robust metal cover for maximum protection.

If ordered as IP66 the heat sink is protected against corrosion (IP66 rating is available up to 90KW/125HP).

Built-in Smart Logic Controller


The smart logic controller is a simple and yet very clever
way to have your Drive, motor and application working together.

The smart logic controller is able to monitor any parameter
that can be characterized as “true” or “false”.

This includes digital commands and also logic expressions
which allows even sensor outputs to influence the operation.

Temperature, pressure, flow, time, load, frequency, voltage
and other parameters combined with the operators “<”, “>”, “=”, “and”
plus “or” forms logic expressions that are false or true.

That is why Danfoss calls it a “logic” controller and as a
result of this you can program the controller to react on literally any event
without necessarily using another external Programmable Logic Controller or
PLC. This helps saving space but also investment and maintenance.


Serial communication


Serial communications like for example Ethernet applications
are likewise available options. The VLT Micro is actually a real giant in its
class. We believe that such a versatility and flexibility has yet to be matched
by competing brands.
